Testnet Explorers

Welcome to the third blog post on the Testnet Faucet blog! In this post, we will cover some of the many blockchain explorers for the different testnets of Bitcoin, Litecoin, Dogecoin, Groestlcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Ethereum, Binance Smart Chain (BNB), and Polygon.

Explorers are the gateway to the blockchain as they make viewing the blockchain a lot easier than having to use the core wallet with transaction index enabled to explore transactions. They offer an easy-to-navigate web interface to search up transactions, view blocks, network information, and a lot more. Without explorers, cryptos may not have taken off due to it being difficult for the new user to explore the chain and for requiring that everyone to download the entire blockchain just to use it. Explorers play a huge role even in the testnet as they allow for developers to see if their transactions are going through and for EVM-based chains, they allow developers to see if their smart contracts/decentralized applications (dapps) are working properly before deployment on the mainnet. Without explorers, it could be a lot more challenging to do these tasks as developers would need to download the entire blockchain which increases the time needed just to download the chain and storage requirements. This can be an issue especially for the Ethereum testnet where the entire blockchain is over 175 GB as of December 2022.

In the next part of this post, we will cover some of the many different testnet explorers for many different networks including those of the coins listed on the faucet and EVM-based networks such as Ethereum, Binance Smart Chain (BNB), and Polygon.
